Question cars & trucks without title

I see many old truck for sale without titles. There must be some way to get a title.I realize this is a state by state problem, but I have also seen ads saying "many reputable companys that can secure a title.I would like to know if anyone has gotten a title from a state or a company and whats involved?
Thanks Larry

I secured a title for a '57 from a place in Alabama, 20 years ago. If I remember correctly, it cost me about $100 for a 30 day plate, title and other paperwork. I doubt if it's still around, but it was called Titles Unlimited. You could try a search on the web, and see what you get.

In 92, I bought a 37 Plymouth p/u without a title. I did get several sales receipts. I went to the courthouse with the serial number, and asked for a title. They told me to go to the TxDot office, see if they would do it. The state office gave me a piece of paper saying that wasn't enough info, so I went back to the county courthouse, and the county clerk said good enough, and issued me a title.

Kinda upset the guy who sold it to me when I drove the now legal truck into his driveway!

Check out "branded" titles. A buddy of mine got a '69 Buick GS400 that had been left on my father-in-law's farm for 15 years. He had to put an ad in the paper stating he was looking for the original owner, and after 30 days he got a branded title. I think the gist of it was that you had to make a reasonable search for the owner; then it's yours.

Here in Arizona, it's called a "junk title". After thirty days, just to the local DMV.

In Virginia you can get what is called an "abandoned vehicle title". It is sort of a time consuming process but works well in the vehicle isnt stolen.

Here in ohio, to get a title you take the car and get it inspected (at the closest highway patrol post), then take that paperwork to the court house and file for a title. It's a PITA but it works.
