Well I've been driving around now for about 8 months not knowing I didn't have a spare tire. I had a flat about a week ago, glad it was a slow leak. I noticed the spare was gone. I bought the truck used, so I called the dealership where I bought it from and they said it's been so long it could have been stolen. I'm sure someone would run the tire down then run the cable back up for me, how thoughtfull. I didn't even want to get into it with the dealer, so I bought a tire and rim off Ebay for $75. Now I notice the jack and wrench for lowering the cable/tire is missing also. I'm wondering if this auction ( 7988647245 ) on Ebay looks like the same jack and wrench as yours? Thanks, Jonathan
The S/D's use a TWO piece crank/extension.. The jack listed has four.. The jack itself 'looked' a little short but hard to tell in the listing, and by the photo angle.. Might work, but not OEM S/D..
There might be another problem... I don't know if all model years need a key to lower the tire but mine does. (2003) It looks like the same type of key used to remove security lugnuts and it fits on the end of the crank. BTW, I use a one-piece crank from a 2000 F150 to lower the spare and not the 2-piece set that came with the truck. The key looks like that:
Thanks, looks like I'll be heading to the friendly dealer tomorrow. I have some other minor issues anyways and have been putting them off. Now it gives me a reason to get everthing done.
Do yourself a favor and pull the spool from under your truck (it really is easy) and take that security key thingy off. Then find yourself a lake, swamp, ocean, whatever and throw the damn thing as far as you can. If you pull your spare more than twice you will strip that damn thing and you will be screwed at the most inconvenient time. I bet you can’t figure out how I know this.
