I bought a 2002 F350 CC about a month ago, and my question is about using 4WD. Everything works fine, but shouldn't there be an indicator light on the dash to let you know that you are in 4WD? I have the selector **** on the dash, by the way. If there is a light in the panel, where is it? Thanks.
Yes, you should have an indicator light for 4X4 and Low. I would guess that your bulb is burned out. If the owners manual is in the glovebox it should show the position on the dash.

Thanks for the input everybody. I figured that there should be a light somewhere on the dash. I checked fuses, but didn't think about looking at the owners manual for the position of the indicator light. I wonder how hard that would be to change out? I bought one of those factory service manual cd's off of ebay, so it should be able to guide me in removing the panel. We'll see.
I just bought an 03 F350 CC FX4 and my indicator lights do not work either. Neither the 4x4 or the Low works. This truck has only 48000miles on it could it just be coincidence that both bulbs are out?
If the servo on the transfer case can't shift into 4x4, the light won't light up.
On the other hand, it may be the bulb, but it could also be the servo not completing the circuit to light the light - as in, there's a switch on the servo, and it ain't making the connection.
Turn the ignition on but don't start the truck. Put your foot on the brake and shift into neutral. Switch the transfer case into 4Hi. You should hear the servo motor shift into gear and see the indicator lamp illuminate when it is complete. If you don't hear the servo motor, the bulb is probably fine and the problem is elsewhere.
I agree, make sure the 4x4 is working first. Recently I did a brake job on mine and one of the vacum lines got disconnected and none of the lights would work as well as the 4x4. I reconnected the line and bang away it went.
Like I said, everything works. It's just not lighting up the indicator light on the dash. I've since removed the dash instrument panel, and swapped bulbs with one from some of the lights that are working, and still nothing. And it looked good too.
I still believe the servo has a switch in it, that feeds back voltage to light those lights. Once the servo is fully engaged in whatever gear, then, and only then, does the light come on.
Disclaimer: I may be severely mistaken, but I do believe the servo lights that light. Could be a broken wire, bad connection at the servo, bad switch in the servo, etc.
My 4x4 also works in high and low just no light. I did notice that when I turn the key to run (and not start it) the lights do not come on like the manual says they should. I just have a hard time believing both bulb are bad.
If you have a digital odometer you can run a test to see if the bulb works.
Press and hold the trip odometer reset button as you turn the key on. Keep pressing until the word "test" appears. After that there are several cool things you can look at including a full gauge sweep for all gauges and a lamp test for all dash lamps.
