The Lightning is dead, Ford's SVT dept was lead by John Coletti for years. His principles were always to take the lightest possible body and SVT-ize it. Which is why the F150 Lightning was a 2WD, reg cab. Thai-Tang is a different cat, we'll see a SVT Explorer Sport Trac next. 4.6 s/c and AWD. Lincoln, Mercury and Ford may all have SVT's with the Fusion being the next model to get hot rodded. 4WD probably not, but AWD certainly for safer and performance. It's very doubtful we'll ever see a SD SVT.

a new V10 coming to America,

Cadillac is saying their new Ultra Luxury Sedan will be powered by a 10 cylinder version of it's 6.0 liter LS7 V8 which if left unmolested will produce 7.5 liters and 600 hp. We're talking about a Bentley/AMG S65/Ferrari type car. But since the LS7 produces 400 hp/400 ft lbs the 600 hp figure will probably come down to around 500/500. Although to compete with the big boys and the Bentley W12, the AMG V12 and the Ferrari GM will need 600 to play in that arena. So, if GM can get 1.31 hp per cubic inch of low-tech, push rod V10 the 415 cu in Ford SHOULD easily make 545 hp.

Well Billy Ford ? Are ya listening ??????

V10KLZZ71S, the sweet thing about that engine is no camshaft. If I'm thinking of the right one, each valve is opened independantly by the computer using a pneumatic, or maybe hydraulic system. Infinitely adjustable virtual camshaft profile. No throttle body, except maybe as a safety. It's the wave of the future.

Yeah they dont get too detailed in the describtion do they? I think they do have pnuematic valve openings. 18,400 rpm's But are rumored to go 19,000 rpm's.

see the weight of that engine ? 206 pounds, wow. The BMW/Ferrari engines are said to turn 19,500 rpm. F1 has gone to 2.5L V8's instead of the 3.0L V10's. I saw a special on the BMW engine, it was incredible and we saw only 10% maybe of it's internals. Ferrari is not faring that well this year after the new tire rules went into effect, maybe the 7 year reign of Michael Schumacher is over ?

A couple US companies have experimented with electronic valve actuation but BMW is the closest to having it in a production car.

BMW has at least 1 engine that doesn't need a throttle body. It still has one as a safety device. It still has camshafts, but the followers or tappets adjust how far the valves open, from just enough to idle, to full throttle. My neighbor is a mechanic for them, he's done some pretty cool tuning to his 750il, including removing the throttle body.

As sweet a car as the 750IL was, you had to be a mechanic to own one. And be a parts distributor, those rear links and rear shocks were just a LITTLE spendy at over $1500. $900 for a muffler ? Hootenanny hoo ! But yea that technology for it's time was way cool. Honda kinda smoked everyone though with it's stepped camshafts in the VTEC. But BMW is working on computer controlled, electronically opened valves. Big valve openings make lots of power if the engine is at high rpm and can ingest all the air/fuel. But they won't idle or pull down low. And the high spring rate required for big cams make for extremely hard closures which basically beats valve seats into dust. But electronically opened valves can also be electronically closed, sorta like the old Ducati desmodronic engines. No valve springs at all, the cam opened and closed the valves, it was cool.
