The first question is what year is the block. Because that is going to determine everything.
Because the thrust bearings are different. If you can get the date code off the block then we can point you in the right direction.
I run stock TRW/Seal power stuff in most all mine. Never had a problem.
My personal opinion is it is more of an oiling problem then bearing quality. As long as there is enough oil film...then it should never touch the bearing to hurt it.
A tri metal bearing will be fine. I have a set of clevite p series bearings in my 390 that I run the **** out of. I know, I run my truck harder than anyone in the fe section. After 10,000 (currently right now) since rebuilt by average joe, i expected the worst from the bearings. The main bearings are pretty and the rods were good but I am getting a new set of the same size. One of them had a groove that i didn't like and since i am there why not.
I realize you guys are thinking wow 10,000 big deal. It is when I driving it. The mains are .001 and are the rods. I had a standard m57 melling pump with no oil mods to the block or crank.
I think Larry hit the key! Have enough oil and change it. I don't know about you guys but I end up changing the oil around 1000 miles. I never make 3000 miles nor do I attempt to.
It's not so much changing it...the filter should take care of the dirt. It's the oil film on the bearing that protects it from wear. Oil passages and pump is the main key.
