Got a flat (ok, ripped a stem out when in the woods), so I put spare on, got tire fixed, and now I can't get two of the lugs off. I can turn them once or so, but they bind up and won't go any further. What to do. Sure, I could just have a shop do it, but what causes this?
I had this problem once. The wheel got a little loose and damaged the threads and the lug nuts bound up. I just got a piece of pipe for leverage and cranked it past the damage. I then got a die and chased the threads to clean them up and the problem was gone.
However, you run the risk of breaking the stud doing this. Then you have to get the stud and replace it. Not a big job, but not something you want to do if you don't have to, so use lots of oil and be as careful as you can.
i would reccomend forceing the lugs off then trashing them and the lug bolts, they are really easy to replace and take only a couple of min and a big hammer... for $10 a side its worth the trouble you could have later
Front or rear? If it's the rear, just use a cheater bar - it'll come off or break, then knock the stud out and use a lugnut and washer to reinstall. If it's the front, then the same thing except you have to remove the hub and ABS ring. Cost is about $5 for lug bolts.
