Anyone have any suggestions on steak pocket tiedowns?
I've got a set of four of the expanding rubber block tiedowns in a blister pack that I'd rather not use. I suppose I could trade for something that uses a dual plate system or simply toss them out like the trash they are. I've seen a couple of alternatives at JC whatever's site, but the pictures don't give me enough detail to get another set of POSs I don't want to use.
I bought a set of Bully tie downs (JC Whitney# ZX494856U) but from my local custom shop. I really like them. On my SD with the plastic bed tops it is actualy flush with the top. If I can remember when I get home I'll take some pictures and post them. Here is the picture from Whitney's website.
I haven't seen the spring loaded kind. I saw a similar type that the hook rolled / folded up (actually, it'd fall back into storage position if you didn't have a strap providing tension to it). Unfortunately, I haven't seen those on-line.
Any issue with corrosion in PA? (My twist in place chrome ones started showing rust after their first winter in Ohio. I'd kind of worrie about the spring causing dis-similar metal corrosion.)
I'd also be concerned with dirt, crud, whatever causing issues with the release mechanism.
In the year I've had them they still look good. I noticed a couple of spots on one, I don't believe it is rust just some discoloration. They worked well all last winter I never seemed to have a problem getting them to pop up when I needed them.
Didn't make it home last night, forgot about a party I had to go to. I'll get the pictures this weekend and post them.
Speaking of stake pockets, where can I find some steel tubing to fit them? My '05 F250 pockets measure approx 1-5/8 X 2-1/4 inches, what an odd size.
Only need about 2-3 feet of thinwall, say 4 gauge rectangular. Guess I'll have to make it - oh Bother!
