Hi guys, this may be a dumb question but do the black trucks get alot hotter than light colored ones in the summer ? I'm considering a black SUper Duty but I'm a landscaper and we do alot of stops during the day where the truck sits for 1/2 hr or more then we are back on the road for a few minutes. Don't use the AC when working because there's too much stop and go and opening doors.
I can't imagine the difference can be all that great; the exterior will get hotter, but the interior plastics/cloths/leather will be what you'd feel in the heat. I would think a dark interior car would get hotter than a light interior car.
I've had black and I've had white. Black is most definitely hotter and harder to cool down. It depends alot on where you live. Lot of sun, you might not like black. And, there's nothing better looking than a clean black truck and nothing worse looking than a dirty one...IMHO, of course. But, ya gotta get what you want. Enjoy!
Mine honestly doesn't seem much worse (if any) than any other vehicle I've had of a different color. My interior is a light gray, so I don't know if that helps. I live in Texas and if I had to do it over again I'd stick with black.
Mine's a black XLT Sport with the special dark graphite interior. Yes, it absolutely gets hotter than a friend's white truck. The addition of high-quality tinting to all windows will help... a sunshade will help... a lighter colored interior and/or exterior will help.
Black absorbs all light, thus all heat. The heat has to go somewhere - it gets radiated inside.
Fortunately, my A/C is plenty cold, and if you crack the windows for a minute, it cools down quickly. I definitely wouldn't want to ride for 5 minutes after the truck sitting for awhile in direct sun. If you're in sight of the vehicle, leaving the windows rolled down would likely help quite a bit.
Black's also much harder to keep clean, as has been pointed out. Despite the extra cleaning, and the extra heat (especially right now... right at 100 degrees here in Dallas), this is my second black truck and I'll keep buying black. It just looks so much better, IMO.
Black is a nice color, but it only looks good after a wash and wax. I also hear that black is the "softest" color.. where it is easiest to scratch and chip, I heard that white was the hardest.
Just put your hand on a black truck in the sun. Put your hand on a white one nearby. Do I need to say more. The white one will be cool to the hand. The black ouch youll get burnt. If I was you Id look at a light colored truck in the job your doing. Also easier to keep clean. I have a dark colored blue SD its hard to keep clean an is hot.
I have a black truck. As others have said, when it's clean looks great. Doesn't take much for the dirt to show. The softer/harder paint comment doesn't hold water. Just about everything has a clear coat on it. It's just that the black reflects the swirls and scratches in the clearcoat better than the white. Can't say that I've touched a white car but have worked on many white airplanes that have sat in the sun and they seem to be as hot as my black truck. This is my second black truck, and I'll probably get another one when it's time. Just my opinion.
i like my white truck (wasnt my first color choice) but now that i have it with all my addons i think it looks really good, and i do notice the difference between mine and my buddies f350 thats the charcoal grey color, but if they are both sitting for long periods of time then it dont matter as much but that doesnt help you much
I to live in Albuquer with my black truck... Black has been proven in studies to be the hottest. Believe it or not, red is a close second. Black was not my first choice, but I was more concerned with drivetrain and body when buying my '02. I really wanted silver or white. I am stuck with her now, but needless to say very pleased.
Even with dark tinted windows the dark truck will be 20-30 degrees hotter on a 95 degree sunny day. I would go white for a work truck also, but black is beautiful.
