Recharging Your Air Conditioner

Is using those recharge kits you buy at the auto parts store safe, or will it completely screw up the air conditioning system in my '03, F-150 S-Crew?

No they are safe make sure you use the guage and don't overfill the system. do you know where to fill it from?

No. I've never done one before. I'm hoping there are instructions on the kit.

I see two valves on the condenser unit. One on a line and the other on what looks like a can. Help.

it is the valve on the silver canister below the line going in. Did the kit you get have a guage with it the color coded ones are more simple. and did you get the r134 with the oils and conditioners in it (the BEST). You need to replace the oils and conditioners along with the r134. if so just follow the instructions.

I have not bought the kit yet, so this is great information to bring with me when I do. Thanks so much for the information!

Why would a 2003 need freon already? You need to repair the leak before adding freon.

did you add the cans with oil? did you remove the old oil? if not you now have a serious problem. you need to find the leak first. you just overfilled the whole system with oil. with a recharge there is no need to change the oils either unless they leaked out.

True, its a closed system and the R134 went somewhere. Well at least its not as dangerous as adding brake fluid because the master cylinder was low.
