did ford make a c6 (2wheel drive) with the 302/351w bolt pattern, and if so, what vehicles had them? how hard would this swap be into my 1978 f100 with a c4? The c4 needs rebuilt, so I am thinking if I can find a c6 and rebuild it, i would be a step ahead when I start modifying the engine for more power. thanks, Ben
I don't know all the things you'd need to swap, but the C4 is shorter - you'd need to have the drive shaft shortened. The C6 will also rob a few extra ponies compared to the C4 also....but it's supposed to be bullet proof.
YUP - C6 is definately a strong tranny. Does steal HP and MPG, but they do seem to work well. If you plan on adding HP, then I would reccommend a C6.
I have a 302 bolted to my C6 in my 1979 F-150.
I've also got a 351M bolted to a C6 in my parts truck.
I hope this answers your questions.
Keep it Rubber Side Down!
i've got a c-6 with the sb bolt pattern that i'd like to sell. $100 canadian.. but shipping would probably kill ya.... did some of the c-4's have longer tail shafts, or output yokes? my 79 had the c-6, and my 78 had the c-4, but the drive shafts were the same length..
I learned the hard way that they did put the 302 out with a C6 behind it if you ordered it that way. My 79 is a 302/C6 combo. I made the mistake of reading my engine book that said 302's came with c4's and then proceeded to put type F into a C6 that doesn't use type F fluid. The Hayne's manual for my 79 Ford says that 302's came with c4's (but now I know.....) and 351's came with c6's. Don't know that that'll help any more than what's already been said but thought I'd throw my 2¢ in.
Thanx!
