can anyone tell me if there is a difference between a c4 out of a truck like my 1978 f100 and a car c4? would they be different lenghts or anything? the one I am looking at is case fill, the one in my truck is pan fill. would that be hard to change over? thanks, Ben
Ben, I noticed the same difference between my '79 F100's C4 and other car C4s too. Somewhere (website) I read a post that the truck C4 has a couple of extra bands...and it's beefed up in other ways like greater spline counts. I wish I knew more also. I've never found any printed text that confirmed any of this though. I'd trust putting a truck tranny in a car, but not the other way around.
I am not sure what year but the c4 in the truck has a larger bellhousing, converter, flexplate (11.5inch 164 tooth). The car version has a 10.5inch 157 tooth, and a smaller bell, converter, and plate. Try Dynamic Racing Transmissions, do a search, they have a website and should have the anwsers you need.
thanks, joetee10.....I will look them up....if u are right, I can use the bellhousing, converter and other stuff from my old tranny, and be ok...will let u know how it goes...Ben
