My truck was manufactured in 8/98 so I don't know if this classifies me as an "early model" 99 or a 99+. I am assuming I am a 99; in which case then maybe there is some truth to how well the Predator works with this year. My vendor said he knows the Edge works well with my year but believes some folks have had trouble with the Predators on this model year.
99 seems to be one of those years where ford made a few more "adjustments" than normal to the F-260/350 PSD line. I'll post a separate thread for those that are interested to discuss the known differences of this particular model year.
Like I said, the 99 model year(early 99's included) the parimiters are the same. If the predator has all the updates, (check diablosports website for version updates,) There should be no problem.
Yes, the Edge Evo does change the way the trans shifts, depending on which program you select. I have an Edge Evo made in 11-04, and on my 96 E350 I hated the way the Race (midlevel) program made the transmission shift.
There was a HUGE difference in power, but it raised the OD shift point by about 7 mph, and made it shift much more firmly. I didn't like the high rpm shift point with this selection, and I didn't like the jerk when it shifted. Basically, I didn't like it that it wouldn't shift to OD at about 42-44 mph anymore, and I found myself trying to make the shift smoother by letting up on the accelerator right when it shifted.
The Tow (lowest setting) has the stock shift points, but I can't really tell any difference on this truck in power when compared to stock. I think I will go back to stock, and sell the Evo. Anyone want a good, like new unit?
I agree - up to the point of selling the Evo. And, this is why I am sending it back to Edge to have the transmission programming removed.
i run the predator... and the shift firmness was decent on the "hard" setting... but.. i put the sonnax kit in my auto tranny and shut off the tranny settings.. like the predator book said to... and it is much better... shifts great all the time under all conditions... and my predator tunes take less time to load...!
