My Ranger tops out at 90-92 MPH at right about 3000 RPM. Is there anything I can do to increase this? Bypass the limiter? Does the add-on chips help with mph? There are just times that you need that little extra.
You guys are talking about breaking 90 and 100 mph with your Rangers. I have a 99 3.0, 4x4, extended cab. The most i've ever been able to get out of it was 85 mph, and that was going downhill.
I do believe you can get a chip/programmer to raise/remove the speed limiter. I don't really have a need to go over 90mph, especially when it costs as much as the chip/programmer does. That's why I bought a carb'ed Crown Vic... 1982 = Minimum Computer Interference. I've never got my '95 2.3L to go over 85 on the highway, but I did peg the speedo on jackstands once.
Next time you might want to race at a 1/4 track if you feel the need to drag. It's more safe for you and others around and it's legal. BTW a 3.0v6 wont hit 90mph on the 1/4 mile before you get to the finish. Best i've done was 81 i think.
I had a 99 3.0 4x4 and hit 104 on the highway before the speedlimiter kicked in. This was with 4.10 rear. Nothing like that happened though.. just cut out for a bit and came back in. These trucks aren't the safest things in the world to be doing 100mph in though..
If my 99 2.5L is in 4th gear, I can get it up to 105 sometimes, if it's in 5th, it will never go faster than 97. I don't experience said 'jumping' or 'bouncing.' Just a loss in power until it slows back to 90.
I think I've only touched 90 once in my 2.3L. Most of the time I don't drive any faster than about 70-75. Before I swapped out the driveshaft in my supercab for the one piece aluminium one found in later model trucks, I would get a vibe above 75 or so. After that, it runs as smoothly as a 11 year old truck with 161k on the clock can run.
I thought the speed limiter was right over 100 mph though? Not that I really care, I have another car for going fast.

You have the best AVATAR ever, yeah cut off as a general rule from ford for the rangers is around 92mph. Still a pretty unstable ride at that speed. I keep the racing for my supercharged millenia, very stable at high speeds.
