5 speed vs. 6 speed?

5 speed vs. 6 speed?
Was looking at a downloadable owners manual for the 2000 SD the other night, and noticed that it had the manual transmissions available listed as a 5 speed and a 6 speed.
Essentially the 5 speed didn't have a low range gear like the 6 speed did.
Were these both offered in the super duty trucks, or was the 5 speed only available in certain models, or what? I had thought they only came with the 6 speed.
