ok, i had the same problem with my truck... if you pull out the dash insert with the guages mounted on it u will see on the back it has a plastic thing with little circuits running on it... it could be one is damaged or dirty, the best thing i can reccomend is takeing the bulbs out and cleaning the board with alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and then trying to put the bulbs on with it on, as when u spin them they will hit the exact spot where they need to be and this is very touchy, mine would get lose and turn a little and then the lights would go out
what i did is i bought a new insert on ebay and took my odometer out and put it in the new one and bam, it all worked
check your ground to the pannel. i had to rig up a make shift ground on mine for them to work. i took a heavy gauge wire and hooked it up to the regulator on the back of the panel (little silver box) and connected the other end to the back of the fire wall under the dash. also try cleaning the circut board with a fine steel wool.
I have changes fuses ,lights, and tried everything.... I got dash lights when brights are on??????
Check the light switch itself. It may need to be replaced.
Does the dash lights come on with only the headlights on, or just the high beams? You could have a short in the wiring circut.
I'd change the headlamp switch or check out the old one to see if it's not shorted inside the switch itself.
Also if the light switch checks out, check the plugs at the light switch and the dimmer switch located on the floor, check for corosion or broken plugs wires etc...
