I got into that 4 letter word habbit when i was in the navy many years ago but today
with a couple boys im much better, although my kids have come up with stuff i have'nt heard befor.
A good rule of thumb is not to swear around employers and the ladies. The only reason not to swear around the ladies, is that they'll start doing it too... and it just isn't attractive to have a chick swearin up a storm.
I replaced the fraze GOD @%*! it with dang it. Its harder not to swear when I smash a body part.I've been replacing them with a low growl. Figure its a bit more polite around customers.
Its very difficult not to use foul language sometimes. It takes work (or at least conscious awareness) to avoid it.
Using rare or odd, or very old expressions is not only fun but useful sometimes. There are expressions we only hear if we watch an old movie for example, such as "GAD!" or (from W.C.Fields) "Godfry Daniels!".
Most curse words and profanity are really not even words that convey any meaning. You might as well make any noise you want in the sentence there - it makes as much difference. Its a dead syllable.
Now - if you really want to make an impression, try telling someone that their parents were brothers...
