Well its 2:30 in the morning and mad. My wife and I work for an ambulance company. Today was my day off, but things at work got crazy tonight so I had to go in and run a call. Transported my patient to the hospital and when we went to leave the brakes in the ambulance were not working very well. So I drove into the local Ford garage to leave for them in the morning. So I had to call my wife to come pick me up. I told her to bring my truck because I hate riding around in her little Mitsu. Good thing I did have her bring the truck. While she was picking me up someone smashed the window out of her car and tried to steel the radio. They couldn't get the radio out so they preceeded to destroy the interior of her car. So happy it wasn't my truck.
This is the third time someone has messed with our vehicles. My 1994 F250 got broken into right behind the ambulance station while I was on a call. My wifes car tire was slashed about 6 months ago, and now this.
What really gets me is that both our vehicles have a big Star of Life that says EMT and Paramedic on them. Its just a huge slap in the face that while we are out serving the community they are vandalizing our vehicles and steeling from us.
Man I really hate people some times.

Ive never understood the whole radio theft thing either, how much can a used, probably damaged, obviously stolen, car stereo really be worth?
...How much does a vial of crack cost??
Thanks for serving, MadMedic20. It's people like you that make this a great country (not counting the 1% that ruins it...). Don't let the actions of a few rotten apples change your attitude toward service.
Man I love my small town! I can leave my windows down, doors unlocked, keys in the ignition, and the face plate for my CD player on, and it doesnt get touched! I've done that quite a few times actually! i dont think anyone is dumb enough to try to steal my stuff because it's a small town and I'd find out. Then you would be on a medic run within the hour of me finding out who it was!
I really do hate the idea of people stealing other people car audio equipment. They obviously cant scrounge up 80 bucks to buy a cheap CD player...or 50 bucks to buy one off E-bay.
That stinks. Sorry it happened. Something else to consider........maybe they saw the EMT stickers and hoped to find something more valuable to them than electronics. ie...needles, medical supplies/drugs. Maybe after thrashing through the car and not finding any drug paraphenelia they decided to try to steal the radio and got frustrated or scared off? Have you had all these incidents happen with the EMT stickers on your vehicles?
We run calls in the ambulance not our cars. I can't beleive they would think to find that stuff in our cars. They probably think that we make alot of money and we don't. EMT's get paid around $7-8/hr and Paramedics make $10-11/hr. We make money by working really long shifts. I work 80hrs/week.
My old F250 was pretty beat up and didn't have any proffesional stickers on it, and it still got hit right behind the ambulance station. My wifes car is ugly, paint is all messed up and looks really bad. I'm probably gonna have to pay for this outta pocket, because our insurance deductable is like $500.
This used to be a fairly nice little small town. Population is only 21,000. Selling my house and going through all the trouble of moving to Colorado looks better and better all the time.
Went to Mitsubishi today and wow, was I shocked. Parts alone came to almost $1200. The installation was quoted at $1687. Unreal. Just really happy it wasn't my Super Duty.

The theft sucks, hopefully, what goes around will come around for the thief. I have an ambulance story for you. Back in the 40's, the town I lived in had two funeral homes, each with an ambulance (a Cadillac and a Packard). When a call for an ambulance went out, either or both could respond with the first to arrive getting the patient. The funeral homes were not close together so the theory was that this system would offer the quickest response. In reality, it resulted in some very wild siren screaming races across town. One day a call went out that a man had suffered a heart attack. The Packard arrived first and pulled into the driveway, but before they could exit, the Cadillac pulled right up to the Packard, blocking the rear door. The two crews began to fight on the front lawn while the patient's wife called the cops to break up the fight. After that, the city gave a contract to the Packard.
You guys do a great job - good luck.
