I have an '88 F250 4x4 that is set up as a dually I just wanted to find out from the door codes it's original configuration. It has a ifs front axle and the rear axle is looks like a factory dana 70 drw, it has the hubs on the front like a fatory dually would.
The codes are as follows. WB\ 155 Type-GVW\ X268 Trans\ Z Axle\ 35 Tape\ 2 spring\ 73F
WB\155 is wheel base in inches. Type-GVW\X268 is body type and weight class, X26 means Super Cab or Crew Cab with 4x4 and the 8 is 8,000lbs. Trans\Z is a ZF S5-42 5-speed manual. Axle\35 are axle types, the 3 is the rear axle and the 5 is the front. I dont have a chart with those #'s but the rear should be a Ford 10.25". The front could be a Dana44IFS, 44IFS-HD, or 50IFS. Tape\2 is a body stripe code. Spring\73F is (you ready for this?...) a spring code. I don't know how to translate it to ratings but yours is the same as mine and I have a 250 XLT standard cab. I hope this helps, Karl...
35 is axle code for rear axle rated for 6250 pounds with a 4.10 ratio - if there is a front axle code it will be after the 35, ie 352 (2= limited slip, only code listed). Is there another number after the 35? The 35 indicates non LS axle, so that should be right.
spring codes are 7 = E0TA -5310-ACB (front), 3 = heavy duty rear suspension package (rear optional), F = E7TA-5560-FA (rear)
Ref 88 specifications book.
Hey 95X15, good info. I have a 88 250 4x with a 2-place A/N axle code so I ASSumed 35 was a legit #. Since you seem more in the know than me could you tell me what a C 9 means? I would also like more detail on what "Ref 88 spec book" is. I could not find spring ratings in any of my stuff so if you care to pass along any recommendations for reference material it would be appreciated. Thank's in advance, Karl.....
C9 axle code is a 6250 # axle with a 3.55 ratio probably limited slip. I can't find where I saw the alpha code signified LS but I seem to remember that (that would indicate that hte front axle wasn't LS with just 2 digits in axle code. Look on the tag for a Ford axle, the first 3/4 digits on bottom line of code is axle ratio ie 3.55, if it is LS it will be 3L55. The spec book is a factory manual that gives all kinds of info on engines drive train body etc. I originally got mine for 88 F150 back in early 90's from Helm, Inc. Don't know if they are still available but try Helm anyway. A complete set was about $150 then. My 95 manual doesn't have the spec books wish it did.
By the way just reading books, not any type of expert on this stuff.
