power windows, ack.

a while ago, my windows started acting up. when you push the button for it to go up, you can hear the motor spinning, but the window just doesn't wanna go up! do any of you know what the problem might be? so yea, if i want the windows to go up, i hafta gorilla grip the windows and yank em up, lol. oh and uh, when i push the button for the windows to go down, they don't want to go down all the way. in order for 'em to go down all the way, i have to give 'em a little push. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Does it get to a point and then Sticks? Sounds to me like the window "track" needs cleaning or lubed up, or you could just have a weak motor.

There is a motor and a regulator that runs the power windows (I know because I just had to replace both). It could be either one or both of these parts that is faulty--both are in the door, under the panel.

My friends '94 Explorer has the same problem, and I believe a good clean out and new motor will fix the problem right up.

yea, it kinda does get to a point and sticks. i'll try n clean up the tracks first thing in the morning. we'll see what happens. if nothing does, then i'll just have to buy 2 new motors and/or new tracks. do any of you know how much these would go for and where to get em besides the highly priced dealerships??

If you can hear the motors turning then the rubber ***** inside the gearbox have disentegrated. They are there to absorb the shock when the window hits full up or down. Ford actually makes a R/R kit with these in them and some lube.

OR you can make your own.......... Remove the motor/gearbox assembly ONLY from the regulator. You may have to drill a new hole to access one blot. Don't know for sure, my F-series has man windows. I had to drill on my Explorer.

Then remove the cover that is held in place with Torx screws. Then remove the gear. You will notice the gear is triangle shaped and sits inside of another triangle gear rotated a little bit. In between the 2 gears was where the rubber ***** was. Clean out the rubber ***** and cut 3 small pieces of 3/8" wooden dowel and insert them where the rubber ***** were then reassemble.

Should work like a champ......

I replaced my window motors a while back. Not too bad of a job. Its very likely it is the motors. I had to drill out a hole in the door to get to the third mount bolt like John said on my 91. I accidentally bought a driver's side motor for the passenger side(or maybe they only sell the one type of motor hmmmm. All I did was flip the motor. Just remember that whole polarity thing!
