hi all, i have a 99f25osd, 4x4, 5.4L. i want to get an aftermarket stereo, but i dont want to get the install kits that leave the small, uselss "hole" below it. does anyone know of any out there that just have a flat face below the stereos face? thanks in advance !!!!
Did you buy your radio yet? If not I would check out Crutchfield.com. They give you the oem faceplate and stock wiring kit free. I think they show pics so you get an idea, not sure.
Not sure what your faceplate looks like off hand but maybe install a 1/2 din eq in that space?
Also I think any generic kit will have a full faceplate with a knockout in that location so just leave the knockout pannel in.
Is this small useless hole a storage space? If so you may have to fab something to cover it up.
yes, they are a small stogare space i believe..... it is only about 1" tall or so, and the width of the radio.... so its useless to me. i will check on crutchfield though, i have not yet bought the stereo, but i know which one i want. thanks though !
I have not seen a dash kit that doesn't have that little slot in there. Unless the stock radio wasn't that big to begin with. I have an '03 Expy and about a 1" slot under my HU and it actually comes in quite handy. I keep small paperwork in there, such as driving directions (don't have that fancy Nav system), stuff I need to mail, or whatever paperwork involved when I'm running errands. Lately I have been putting all my reciepts in there for the day, so I can tally up how much money I've blown that day. The point is, you will find some use for that space.
yes, that is true... maybe a pack of gum or something, lol. ill just deal with it.... besides, a lot of companies offer the install kit free with the radio purchase.... who can complain about that ???
Just completed my upgrade. '98 F150 XLT 4.6L 4x4. Switched out factory M100 ESC AM/FM Cassette (F75F-19B132-AA) for AM/FM CD Radio (F77F-18C815-AB), a "Plug & Play" factory with but 6W x 4 output ($25). (Visteon's made-for-Ford CD-6 requires surgerical install on pre-99's). Installed four Polk db570's ($157) and Alpine MRP-F240 Amp w/ 40W x 4 output ($143), which fits neatly under/behind reg. cab psng. seat. Awesome, awesome sound! After-market radio could NOT sound any better in a small cab.
