I'm wanting to put a new AM/FM stereo and speakers in my 1976 single cab 4x4. I want to replace the old AM radio and pur some speakers under the dash, and some behind the seat. I was wondering if anyone knew where i could get a dash install kit to fit a new head unit.
You'll have to make it yourself. I've got some pictures of my setup if you want to see how I went about it.
I like your set up and I am going to use your idea on running my wire through the door with the conduit like you did. Is that 3/16 conduit you used there? ( I got about 12 feet not doing anything) was it a hassel to get the door and into the cab drilled?
I also see you have the same Pioneer door speakers I have. Did the door panels go back on over them ok?
What kind of power does your stereo have? I was looking at a 200 wt unit. I though it would be plenty, I really don't need the concert volumes anymore.
I would put the speakers in the doors, not under the dash. IMO, better quality door speakers(amped maybe?) will sound better than extra speakers behind the seats.
I put a custom autosound radio in my 78, fits in the dash with no mod's, looks stock and sounds great. And I don't have the theives wanting to steal it. Check them out.

Sorry that it took me a while to get back. Thanks for the compliments. To get the grommets in there for the conduit to run through, I took the doors off so that I could get my drill at the correct angle. Normally it would have been a hassle but I used my cherry picker to do it and it went pretty fast. The door panels fit over the speakers just fine; I really like the look. I think my stereo is 200 W or so. Plenty for me. I like it because it can read files from a flash drive, because I can tell people my 30 year old pickup truck has a USB port
you might want to try ebay or some of the catalogs for these old trucks like macsautoparts lmc & npt an see if they might have a universal kit to fit them or something like that.
So are we talking about installing CD players? My 77 just has door speakers only and it sounds good. They are really old looking speakers so I'm gonna replace them since I'm changing doors right now. My head unit is a pioneer that still has one **** for volume and one for stations so it fits right in and even has the trim cover plate made for that radio. Went in like factory really. This is how the truck was when I got it and it works well. Its quite dated though, I'm guessing the radio is late 80s or so. I want to install a CD player but the radio mount in the truck has the 2 **** radio mounting style so something will have to be done there. I don't think it would be too hard to figure it out but if someone has some pics, then theres no need for me to re-invent the wheel.

Thanks, I just happen to have a cherry picker setting right there not doing anything!
