2005 F250 Stereo upgrade
Hello I am new to this site and have just purchased a F250 XL here in Australia.I was shocked to discover that it had a factory cassette tape player stereo, so I want to replace it with a CD player stereo. Went to my local stereo supplier today to see about purchasing a decent stereo and having it installed but the supplier looked it up on his computer and tells me I cant take out the old stereo because it is a cam bus or something and it will shut down the onboard computer. He said I would need to get Ford to perform a costly computer reset if we go ahead and remove the factory stereo.
Can anyone tell me if this sounds right.
Thanks

I don't believe that is correct. I have the 2006 F350 Lariat pkg, it came with the single cd and casette player. I bought the 6 cd stock stereo from ebay and installed it myself. The install took about 20 minutes, the hardest part was removing the dash and all the plugins. Once that was done it was 4 bolts and plug and play on the back of the stereo head unit. I put everything back together and the stereo and truck work just fine.

If there is a built in anti-theft, it normally do not disable to car --- it makes the radio useless because it is "mated" to the car PCM/BCM via the bus.
Talk to your Ford dealer --- they can confirm that they didn't put something strange for you people.
Who knows, Kangaroos and being upside down can make you strange.
Even if there is such a disabling device, you can, for a nominal fee, ask the dealer to disable it.
Then you can install whatever you want.
