I returned to work tuesday after being closed at 12 noon on saturday and found a bunch of car stereo stuff I had was gone a 10" kicker boBIG) four amps all wiring and a crossover I share the building with a guy that runs a sharping shop my side of the shop was closed and sucured well but he did not have the door closed between sides and some one walked right over and took all that stuff, thay had to have a good amount of time as there was a lot of equipment to get around and had to go through his store to get it out, theres a buzzer on his front door it had to be one of his customers. when I asked what happened to my stuff he said he did not know and did not know what to tell me and checked to see if anything of his was missing and there wasnt. At this point I dont know what to do call the police! I dont have ser#s or model #s to give them should I make him pay for my loss because he wasnt waching his store more carefully
,sorry for the rant but I am just poed and dont knw what to do

Don't really know what to say to something like this. Especially since you don't have the serial #s and such. Try pushing the issue with him. And find a way to secure that door. Or make a way to secure it to save you future problems.
Is there a reason that the door between the two shops needs to be open? e.g. fire escape, restroom access ???? If not, it should have been secured and, IMHO, that should have been your responsibility. However, if the door needs to be open for the adjacent shop to have access to the restroom or whatever, it should be the other shop owners responsibility to keep it secure. Common courtesy.
You could approach the situation in such a way as to say if the shoe was on the other foot, my shop was open and yours was closed and someone went through this door and helped themself to some of your equipment that you would likely feel the same way that I do right now.
Hoping that the other shop owner will realize the situation hopefully the two of you can work out an agreement with regard to mutual security.
You are right in that without make, model, serial number etc, the authorities do not have a way to trace your lost items.
Best you can hope for is to keep this situation from repeating itself.
Definately fill out a police report. It would show that you are serious about recovering the items, if possible. Check yer local pawn shops and local ebay sells in the coming weeks. You might find the items being offered for sale. Without serial numbers it might be nearly impossible to recoup the $$$ or items. Maybe, if you have insurance that will pay you for the lose? At this point I would cut my loses, and keep detailed inventory of all current and future items, including descriptions, serial numbers, and digi pics. Also, some better security for your items might be in order. If you suspect foul play you might want to install a hidden camera and some "bait" to see if you can catch the theif in the act.
Are you sure your next door nieghbor didnt have anything to do
with this job? just wondering sounds kinda fishy. And definatly
file a police report, serial numbers or not its informs the police
and in return they also contact pawn shops to look out for items
you may have mentioned and i believe thats a requirement of theres.
Well I filed a report today with the local police so at least there is some kind of record of it happening, makes me feel a little better but not much if you know what I mean. what really gets me is that my shop is really secure bars on all the windows and doors heavy duty deadbolts, spotlites and buzzer alarms on all the doors and someone just walked in and took all this stuff like nobodys looking(guess nobody was)I do blame the guy next door for not having the door closed when I was not there but you dont expect someone to have the nads to walkout with all that equipment at one pop either. This is a small town someones gotta talk and I will be listening, thanks for letting me rant
Contact the Owner/manager of the building, and explain what happened. I would expect an explanation as to why they are leasing the building with an open access between the stores.
The reason we have a door between shops is the bath room and kitchen area are on my side,we have been here eight yrs and never had a problem with someone taking things inside our stores like this small things yes!My shop is a old produce stand that was converted to a repair shop over 30 yrs ago never had a break in until I started working on motorcycles 8 yrs ago lost my brand new 98 xr 600r and a customers cr 500 thats when a buddy of mine came down and put bars and stuff on the building for us.The property is leased to me and I rent half to a guy who has been working there for 30 yrs. My shop it self is always locked when I am not there but my store is always open to john next door he will always help me out when a customer wants to pick up or drop something off and I'm not there(witch is alot lately because of health reasons) he trusts every body and i've learned not to trust any body, when someone comes in his door and I hear the buzzer I always look to see who it is and watch them he dosn't.Sometimes people will come through the door between our shops and I wont know they are there that bugs me any way I am going to be closing my shop this yr because of my health and wont have to deal with it anymore
