What's your opinion on those multi-position ladders they advertise on TV with the likes of Dean Johnson (Hometime) and Richard Karn (Al, flannel master, Borland of Home Improvement)?
I know there's Lil Giant and others.
Does anyone out there own one, and if so, do you like it and would you buy it again?
My favorite position for the ladder is in the garage and/or shed, 'against the wall, hanging in it's hooks'.
The Little Giant has a good reputation. Seriously, though. . . . that's a lot of money for a homeowner's ladder. (Heck, I've got 5 different sizes, already!)
I got the Werner knock-off version of the Little Giant at Lowes for (I think) around $150. They can easily eliminate the need for two or three ladder types.

I've got a 16' Krause that I bought from some catalog company. It is so versatile, you'll wonder why you didn't get one sooner. I've used mine as a scaffold, step-ladder, extension ladder, folded into an 'L' shape, etc. They're not as light as a same-size extension ladder, but they're more versatile. They also fold up into a nice compact package.
I bought a Little Giant in 1989 and I still really enjoy using it. Great Tool...One tough and compact ladder. I bought the 17' version, and as a step ladder inside the House it is a little awkward, but for all round inside and out it is a joy to use, works fantastic in a staircase. Watch for special sales at one of the homeowner, outdoor or tool demo type shows. I remember saving about 100$ buying it at a show special. There are infomercials on them now also. Good Luck GO FORD

I have the Werner, also. I paid $100 at Costco, I saw the SAME one at Lowes or Home Depot for $150. Great ladder. Well made, strong, etc. Heavy, though, compared to a stepladder. If I wanted a ladder for the home, I think I'd get a stepladder (or two), and an extension ladder. I have not watched the "infommercial", just saw it when channel surfing. I expect you would be paying more for all that advertising. I call it "The Ladder Channel".
Bought my son the Werner version from Costco for Christmas last year, he loves it. I also like knowing my Little giant is in my garage when I need it and doesn't require a trip to his house.

Reason: clarity
I used a Little Gaint ladder for over 8 years where I use to work. Nothing better than it. Counter tops, stairs, uneven working area's all made easy. They do weigh more and the fiberglass one's weigh even more. If they are not powered coated, then your hands tend to get dirty more. Used the 6' and the 8'. They both fold out to make and extension ladder out of them.
Cost is high, however compared to buying 2 or more ladders to do the job of one, cost is the same. Other nice thing about the Little Giant is that two people can stand on it across from each other to work. One to hold and one to nail or screw. You can stand comfortably on both sides, easy on the feet.
I have the Little Giant (17'). I also looked at the Werner before I bought. I was not impressed for a few reasons. One, the Werner is a rip-off. They just waited for LG's patent to run out. Legal, yes, cheap and dishonorable, too, especially with the level of copying that took place. At least make some improvements. Two, to turn the Werner into two 4' stepladders, you need an otherwise useless hinge piece. The LG utilizes a platform that doubles as the spreader/stabilizer for the stepladder. Three, the LG's steps are all welded to the ladder. Werner's are all riveted. (In case you've never used a ladder long-term, rivets work loose over time, making the ladder less sturdy.)
LG all the way. If you want to save some money, try to order one at a state fair or a trade show.
