I recently got an autometer egt gauge and my problem is the plug on the down pipe is a much larger size than the probe hardware kit. I really dont want to tap a second hole!. Were can I get a fitting that will thred into the pipe bung and have the probr thread into it?
i would first find a bolt around the house, hardware store,etc... that screws into the bung on the down pipe. then go to the hardware store with the bolt and the probe with the threads. ask an associate if they have any adapters. im sure searching somewhere like a hardware depot online should surely have whatcha want
I just installed a gauge myself, however, I installed pre turbo as many have and will recommend. I your's is the same kit as mine you should have a large pipe clamp and ceramic washer that came with it. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the Y pipe adapter just before the turbo and clamped it in place there. If you are dead set on going the route of the Down Pipe, and good hardware store should carry what you are looking for.
I absolutely agree with cangim, install the temp probe pre-turbo. Vey easy installation, and a better place to monitor EGT's from. If you are dead set on the post-turbo downpipe, you need a 1/4" - 1/8" npt bushing (preferably brass). This should do the trick. Hope it helps.
i would go to the hardware store and buy a brass plug with npt threads on it( a bolt is not gonna work) and plug that hole and then put that pyro in your up pipe or exhaust manifold.
actually it will be a higher number. the EGT's go down some when they pass through the turbo. i think the MOST accurate area to place one is in the manifold. ill look around, ISSPRO has a set of gauges that are post- and pre-turbo and you can look at that and base a "safe EGT"
edit- see next post, the green/yellow area bases a safe egt, and you can see the pre-turbo is safer at a higher temp then at the same temp in post-turbo.
