recommended gauges

I have a 05 SD with 6.0. What are some recomended gauges for this truck. It has a factory boost gauge but I am reall concerned with EGT.s. I have a SCT tuner withtunes Matt at Spartan and would like to monitor EGT's.
Is the factory boost gauge accurate? Does anyone make gauges that will match the stock gauges? T

Thanks for any help

Tranny temp, EGT, Fuel Pressure. Factory boost gauge seems to be fairly accurate from what I've read. There are some gauges that match very close. I have autometer, some like ISSPRO. I'm sure you'll get plenty of opinions.

re guages

Blackhat hooked me up with dieselmanor I think it's www.dieselmanor.com
I have an A pillar 3 guage set. Pyro, trans and water temp. You can get any combo. They are really helpfull. There is a thread on here some where because that is how I got my info. Goodluck.

You could also go with a Quadzilla commander, some folks like them some don't. All together it is pretty comparable in price to the analog guages. I really like mine. As for the accuracy of your factory boost guage, mine seems to be fairly accurate other than the numbers (0-20-40) leave a lot of room for interpretation. It does seem to match my A/M boost guage but it responds slower than the A/M guage.

I just received my own gauge kit from Diesel Manor today. Can't wait to install it this weekend.

Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone have pictures of where their gauges are mounted? I really hate to get rid of my handle to mount pod gauges in this truck. I saw a steering column mount for one gauge but i don't know anyone who is running one. I also have teh optionof putting them under the dash.

thanks

I opted for the A-pillar gauge kit even though I would have preferred to keep the handle just as you've stated you would. Ultimately it was just more important to me to have the gauges visible all the time than it was to have the pull handle. The whole reason I'm installing gauges is to keep tabs on vital statistics, after all.

I considered the under-dash mount that goes beneath the cubby by your right knee, but that seemed counter productive since the gauges wouldn't always be in my line of sight. So by the time I noticed that something was wrong, it might have been too late.

Your mileage may vary.

davidcam see my post on Rookie Gauge install

I have more pics if helpful, the install was pretty straight-forward with the only difficultly taping the exhaust manifold.

If you want to keep the grab handle, and have gauges, you may want to check out some of the electronic gauges. The two most popular right now are the Quadzilla Commander like fireman660r mentioned, or the MSD Dashhawk like I have. There is also a new one that should be out soon caled the DashDAQ, that looks very promising, but costs almost twice as much.

Check out my thread here for a lot of information on the Dashhawk, as well as pictures of it installed in my truck.

Beerstalker is right about the electronic guages. I have mine mounted underneath my grabhandle. It fits pretty nicely and the instructions on mounting were pretty straightfoward. The plastic piece that the monitor fits into snaps around your a-pillar under the handle. It is a pretty nice fit and fills the space between the handle and the dash, and is easy to see but does not block your vision at all. You will have to paint it to match your interior as it is only black when you get it. As for the commander, it took me about 3 hours from start to finish, but I am a mechanic and have all of the necessary tools at my fingertips to use. Most of the posts I have read say it takes anywhere from 3-6 hours to install.

Do the Commander and the Dashhawk have EGT functions? I really like the way they look, and it looks like it has the best of both worlds. Small space and multiple functions. My biggest concern is EGT just because I want to be cautious with the new tunes. Thanks for all of the feedback

I have the DashHawk and have it mounted under the grab handle as well. I am WAITING for the EGT function still. I hear it should be anytime now.

Sounds like the EGT kit should be getting released any day now.

I'm in the same boat. I'm mostly concerned with EGT's. I like the look of the digital gauge, but w/o EGT monitoring, what's the point?
