yes and no. the firewall can weaken and when you apply the clutch pedal it will give not allowing the clutch pedal to fully engage the clutch. at one time, Ford had a repair kit for it. I mainly saw this on the pre 92 trucks but some post 92's have had this problem. while you or someone applies the clutch, have you or someone look at the firewall from the engine bay around the clutch bracket bolts/nuts and watch for flexing and possible cracking.
that is what happens after a while, the firewall wasn't strong enough to take the pressure of pushing the clutch pedal and starts to crack. If left go, it will move enough to aloow the clutch master to move, and then won't disengage the clutch enough. Soem cases are so sever as to totally break through the firewall. Ford has a kit for about $15 to reinforce the firewall for this problem. Not too bad to install, but makes a lot of difference if you have this problem. When I first got my truck, it had troubles going into reverse and first. i found out about this problem, got the kit, and it is pretty much ok now, but when the trans is cold, I can tell the synchros got hurt.
I had it in my 92 but not as severe as the early trucks my clutch felt like you were pushing 80lbs though. although not harder than the clutch I have pressed on couple different 18 wheelers I have drove( feightshaker, volvo, international, mack)
