The clear plastic cover over the instrument cluster in my '73 F-100 is turning hazy (not dirty-sort of a whitish haze), to the point where I can't see my gas gauge. Someone told me there are cleaners that will fix this. Can anyone suggest one? Thanks, Polkat
You can polish the plastic and I've seen it done on my old one, but I wouldn't bother. I bought some new clear plastic and used the old one as a template and cut a new one for about $5 and it's working great.
Plastic shouldn't be cleaned with glass cleaner, it causes the problems you are having.
I think NOVUS makes a plastic polish that will work...Ive used it on faceshields on my motorcycle helmet with good results...most auto parts stores carry it....( I think its called NOVUS anyway)

Novus #2 is what you need. It works very well on clear plastic. Makes it cyrstal clear. just type in " NOVUS #2 " on yahoo and it will come up.
Well guys, I went to several hardware stores and asked about Novus #2, and nobody knew what the heck I was talking about. Can anyone suggest auto parts stores or other stores that might carry this product? The plastic is only bad around the gas gauge so I wanna try this first. Thanks, Polkat
If you havent already...the wax/polish sections of Checker, Autozone, Napa,BAP, Pep boys....If not there, then the same sections of Walmart, Kmart and maybe Home Depot or Lowes home improvement stores...worse comes to worse check out the paint stores that specialize in auto body paints...
Then again you might hit a motorcycle shop for something they used to clean motorcycle windshields/face shields...hope this helps
Ain't never heard of them stores up here in the mountains! Heh...just kidding. We have a few so I guess I'll just have to check them all. If I find it, I'll try it and let the forum know how well it worked.
don't laugh, but tooth paste will also do wonders on a plastic lense. i use tooth paste on clear plastic as well as park lamp and tail light lense. a clean cotton rag or a cotton diaper works well. i keep the cloth damp. then polish the piece with a clean dry cotton cloth. use care not to use excessive presure and work the entire surface not just one spot. speaking of tooth paste, do you figure the person who named tooth paste had but one tooth.
Well, I ended up buying a product called BlueMagic at Auto Zone. It took a few applications, but the plastic is good as new. No kidding! I couldn't even see the gas gauge before, and now it looks like new! I never suspected any of this stuff would work. My surprise.
