Dang, I was having the same problem. The Clutch fan was just a little loose. So, I used the process of alimination, starting with the fact it had no coolant. After I replaced the Clutch fan it was still overheating but not bad. After a couple of days, still no change so I figured the thermostat. I just had back surgery so I couldnt get in it. But it all cleared up and now runs just a little over the cold mark like it did before. It was running in the middle of the gauge and everyone here told me it was normal, but, not for this truck. It was a heat index of 113 here in TX and my truck was still just barely over the cold mark. After an hour drive. Good Truck.
Try a Flexfan.
The blades are flexible metal blades. As the engine speed increases the pitch of the blades flattens out.
Result: Moves a tremendous amount of air at idle and reduces drag on the engine as the speed increases.
I've been running one for 4 years now. Not a single problem and I drive in all sorts of traffic. Temps for the previous week have been 100+ and very humid.
