Slamming doors

Gave a friend of my wife a ride and she just about shattered my truck's window. Holy cow. I almost screamed in pain. So at her destination I jumped out, whipped around with the intention of opening her door, but she was too quick. Wham!

I don't get it. What makes people do that? Maybe I need to put a sign in the window: "Close door gently". Or better yet, stop taking passengers.

the wife does it every time too- for some reason the doors on my truck (1970) open and close like something you would see on a limo. if you sneezed on the open door it would probably slam. serious! when she shuts the door you get this HUGE gong type bang from the sheet metal shaking so hard.

I would print up a little dash sign with rules.

Rule:

# 1) Unless you're female,chip in some gas money.

# 2) No Smoking

# 3) Anyone caught slamming the doors will forfeit their passenger validation.

My mom is very bad at slamming the doors on the vehicles. She's done it so much in the Aerostar, that the bottom of the door panel on the drivers door is starting to come off!

Not to completely hi-jack the thread, but this reminds me of a question about slamming the doors on my truck (which I also hate). Seems my passenger door is a little harder to close when all the windows are rolled up, so that you need to pull on it harder to ensure it closes. I told my wife that it is that way because when the windows are up, there is no place for the air to go, causing a sort of 'cushion' in the cab. She swears there is something wrong with it, but I know there isn't, as it looks to be perfectly lined up witht he rest of the cab. So, before she gets in, I try to make sure that one of the windows is slightly open, alleviating the problem (again, I don't really consider it a problem). Is this normal for trucks in general, or maybe just Ford???

It's all trucks............Anyway, I HATE it when my passengers slam the doors! In fact I usually say something. Like "Holy cow, what did my door do to you?" Or if it's a guy I just say "Do you think you could slam it just a little harder next time?" They usually kinda laugh and get the picture.

I hate it when people don't close the door hard enough and that little 'door ajar' light stays on! I don't really mind slamming though.. unless they brake something

Uh I can't stand it when people slam my doors. I mean, granted the new cars close a lot easier but my trucks door doesn't take much to close. I think unsuspecting people get the impression that it's pretty hard to close based on how thick or big the door is compaired to their car....but it's pretty easy.

Those parts in the doors are pretty dang expensive!

my wife and kids alll slam doors like they are going for points with the sledgehammer game at the midway.

I just got a glare when i suggested that car doors didnt need so much force.

Well... the power mirror on the drivers side door of her Sable failed first.......now its the in-door speakers....
I want to say "told ya so".. but either way i gotta fix the damn thing :-(

In high school I kicked several girls out on the corner when they slammed the doors, I gave them two chances, I tried to open/shut the door for them, when they felt that wasn't neccesary I politely asked to not slam them, I think there was 4 or 5 that I booted, just pulled over after asking and told them to get out. Not worth it to me, most will never learn and if they won't treat something so simple as a pickup/car nice, what else will they do??

My wife has a ford Freestar with the automatic doors so the back passenger doors can't be slammed.

I have shattered the window in one of my trucks slamming the door, but I was rather upset and slammed it hard.
My big thing is when my girlfriend, or anybody else for that matter, is getting out and the truck is on a slope towards the passenger side, and they open the door. They don't just gently open the door, though. 9 times out of 10, it's like they kicked it open. Before I can even say anything, the door is already bouncing off the stop hard enough to make the truck move. I'm a lot more worried about the door coming off that way than any damage from slamming.

the door won'r likely come off, but the hinges will be tweaked to where the door will need slammed to get closed. My driver's door has been caught in the wind enough times that the hinges are tweaked, and if the window is up, it hadd to be slammed hard to get it all the way closed, so I try to remember to open a window a bit to get it to close properly. My dad had that problem with his 84 as well. After the door gets slammed enough, the door pin will either get bent in, making it more necessary to slam the door, ot the door jamb will actually start to break after flexing enough. After the pin starts to bind and get out of line, then the latch starts to get a bind in it, and next thing you know, the latch goes closed, and then you have to manually release it to be able to latch it, and it starts doing that alot to the point of total latch failure. So the next time someone tells you it doesn't hurt anything, you can tell them maybe not right away, but it will if it continues all the time.
