the guy at napa said the lobe that runs the fuel pump might be worn down but i talked to the previous owner and he said it was running perfect when he parked it
check the flow with a bottle. unhook the hose from the carb and place it in a bottle on the manifold crank it over and see if you have pressure. it is 99.99% impossible for the fuel pump ecentric to wear out.have you take the top off the carb yet to see what is going on in there? i would pull it off and see if the needle is stuck, did you make sure to set the float and reinstall the float spring.
I'd suspect corrosion in the fuel tank caused the inlet in the tank to get plugged up. Try blowing compressed air back into the tank (not too much or gas will go everywhere!)
do it simple first look into the carb hit the accelerator does gas squirt in if no pull the fuel line put the end into a can crank the engine it should pump fuel if no pull the fuel line between the tankj and fuel pump does gas come out if no have someone either blow into the tank while you watch for fuel or watch while you blow if no fuel pull ther tank sending unit and clean the sock and 4x4 f250 NEVER came with 390 stock it was not an option anybody who says they got a stock 390 4x4 is full of it or has a 360
I agree. 4x4 F-250 came w/ 360 and 2 bbl. The sock on the end of the fuel line pickup in the gas tank in probably plugged/corroded. Ford built these w/ 5/16" pickups which are prone to plugged w/ long sitting. You will have to drop the tank if you think this is it.
The possibility of a plugged in line fuel filter should be considered.
My guess is that you have a fuel tank full of rust or other junk. I had a similar problem on my f250 that sat. It ate a pump then kept plugging filter full of rustty stuff as fast as i put them on. My suggestion is to pull the tank and have it coated with a gas tank sealer thats what i did and have no trouble since. SO the filter on the new pump is prolly clogged and will keep getting replugged untill you coat the tank. it cost me less than 30 dollars to do my tank with a couple coats of the stuff.
did you do the coating yourself or have it done? what product was used? I need to do the same to mine it is getting pretty bad.

On my truck i did it myself. Tank was behind my seat so it took like 10 minutes to drain and remove. Make sure you remove the fuel sender.
For best results i recomend flushing the tank a few times to get the crud out of it the best you can. Make sure it is dry before application of sealler!!! (let it sit at least a day in the sun)
I cant exactly remeber what product i used it was over 5 years ago but This product is familiar for some reason also dont know why? http://www.hirschauto.com/acb/showde...t_ID=6&CATID=3 (this product can be poured out and reused unike soem others)
I suggest you make sure to read up on the product wesite before you buy it as i'm sure ther are other sealers out there that may do just as good of job.
I had to make sure the sealer was compatable with alcohol as in Iowa alot of fuels have ethanol. I'd be sure to ask before i order to make sure it is alcohol compatable.
good luck with your project and let me know how it turns out.
