Got a 92 F-250 5.8L with the tfi distributor. When the motor is cold i have an annoying squeak/squeal that lasts until the motor gets fairly warm. I'm almost certain that its a spun bearing inside the distributor. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with ripping these distributors apart.....is it possible to change the bearing in there or do i have to hunker down and spend the $ for a new distributor? I'd rather try and rip the distributor apart and fix it myself....try to save a little money. If anyone has any exploded view pictures of the tfi distributors they'd like to share, that would be appreciated. Thanks.
Is it a loud sound or is it a low tone sound? I have a sound that seems to come out from the distributer area....Its hard to tell with the loud exaust and engine noise but its there. Just curious to see what it could be.
It can be loud. It varies. Sometimes its barely noticeable, and sometimes its sooo loud that its almost embarassing to be seen in. It usually makes a ton of noise when cold though.....after it gets warmed up it quiets down, which is a general characteristic of a worn out bearing. It definitely is hard to locate annoying squeaky noises with loud exhaust.....that i agree (1-chamber flowmaster doesnt help anything out ). But i'm definitely sure its the dizzy.
