distributor question

Hey all, was wondering if anyone has tried this with any luck. Since MSD doesn't offer a tfi distributor for the factory injected 7.5 gas hog. Will getting a 5.8 distributor and changing the gear on it actually work. I have looked into it a little and believe it will. I just want to probe around a bit and see if anyone else has done it.

You won't see any power or performance gains with an aftermarket distributor in these motors, so unless there is something wrong with your stock dizzy this is a complete waste of your time and money. Just sayin.. if you want one anyway then by all means, I kinda doubt a 5.8 distributor would work however.. it doesn't even work in a 5.0 and that motor is in the same family.

No it will not, other than the gear the shafts are different lengths as I recall.

What they said, only MSD part I suggest you ever use would be there retention cap, they are awesome.

You or whomever is telling you that that distributor might work is likely confused about different 351/5.8 for engines. Distributors from the 335 engine family(351C, 351M, and 400) will work in a 385 family engine(429 and 460) But no 335 engine ever used TFI stock. The common 5.8/351W that was factory fuel injected and those TFI distributors are for are a completely different engine then the 335 series 351/5.8 versions.

What is your reasoning for wanting a MSD distributor?

Granted this is not for a TFI application, do the application remarks point to correlation between the 351C and 429/460 dizzy's?

Yes, 351C, 351M, 400, 429, 460 distributors all interchange. But this is different from the 5.8/351W that used a TFI distributor.
