We bought an Electrolux upright- piece a junk. It doesn't seem very powerful, and numerous parts have broken on it. Replacement parts are $$$. I'd love to demo a Dyson- to see if they are up to all the hype they generate. I noticed in Sears the other day that all the other vacuums LOOK like Dysons now.
I work on commercial vacuums for a distributor. If I could choose one it would be the Windsor Sensor. They hold up very well to the abuses of commercial use and should last a regular homeowner forever. There have been some good suggestions here but that would be my preference. You can see one at windsorind.com
i too work on vacuum cleaners for a living, my all time favorite as i said before is kirby
but ive also seen that Compact or known now as TriStar are good, and the same for a commercial (heavyduty) version of a Eureka known as Sanitaire. I have an older Electrolux canister on my bench that i use to clean other machines with, it dont seem like a bad machine, but is what my supervisor gave me to use, my supervisor has uses a Compact/TriStar Canister on his bench, it seems to do a lot better job. P.S. all machines i mentioned are also VERY VERY quiet compared to the cheaper hoovers and eurekas
Want the best money can buy? Then buy a Kirby. It will out perform anything on the market. It will be the last vac you will ever need to buy. Your kids and grandkids will be using it. Only one draw back. They cost around $1800.00. They clean the best and have a lifetime warranty.
I have to concur, I have a Panasonic Commercial that is yellow and black with a 50' cord. The long cord is great, I can vacuum half my house without unplugging to move! It is very simple with 4 height adjustments. I'm not sure it could be bought for under $200.00.
u dont have to spend a thousand of dollars to get a kirby, you can find em on ebay all day long for under a hundred even, still just as good, i even have a few rebuilt kirbys, send me a private message if your interested
We just bought a Dyson a few months back and it works GREAT!! The wife is just tickled with it, and that makes me a happy man....lol Paid more than $300 for it though. Closer to $500, but I think it's a more "upscale" model. The thing sure it a sucking fool. We 'bout fell over when we saw what it pulled out of the carpet that the Kirby just wasn't getting. It was amazing...
