Your F-250 is a Super Duty. The CGWR is 20,000#, or something around there. Is that right?
'Ya gotta admit though, an 11,000# *camper* might find new limits for the term GVWR!
Hee hee! Well at least give me that one!

Scott,
Yeah, I would have to hire an 85 pound jockey to drive it the 10 feet it would go on an empty gas tank to pull that 11k trailer and still be under the GVWR (pulling it would probably not be the problem though, stopping would).
Yup, most trucks now are sold to yuppies and people who can't afford a new car(a similarly equipped small truck is usually cheaper than a car). So the extended cab makes sense for people who don't really need to haul a big load. I see a lot of women driving around in small pickups and most of the big trucks are pretty much empty and appear to be commuters or just for looks.
But, I own a 94 F250 Supercab with long bed, and long wheelbase(A real B!+@# to find a place that can really algin the wheels). I do haul a fairly heavy trailer and I have two yard apes and the wife to haul around, so the supercab is just the ticket.
When I first got married and Our Daughter was born we could only afford one vehicle. I sure wasn't going to live without a truck so we kept my 97 F150 ext. cab Short bed. Worked out fine until we got back on our feet again the I sent it down the road and bought a family car and my Old 86 F350. After owning an ext. cab I will never own another reg cab again, the extra room is just to handy. However, after owning my Crew Cab I will never own an ext. cab again. I like having 2 full size seats in it and 4 full size doors.
LAST EDITED ON 01-Aug-01 AT 06:19 PM (EST)[p]Too Late! I have 2 yuppies here in my neighborhood that both have brand new 4X4 F250 PSD's. Theyre real purty! The trucks, not the.... Their average haul will be groceries or mulch.... damn, I think my monitor is fixin to go out!
It's true, it's hard to find a basic work truck anymore. Why, it's called profit. Ford makes alot more off of these new plastic trucks than basic trucks.

The worst thing about SUV's is that they've introduced a whole new class of people to trucks. Now they expect trucks to meet their same 'needs' as SUV's. And of course they are wielding the cash, so the manufacturer's are happy to oblige. I heard someone complaining, and warning everyone else that his super duty didn't come with a convex mirror on the passenger side like a car/SUV.
In the future, forget about finding basic work trucks in the used market. All you will find is shortbeds with makeup mirrors and grocery nets.
I personally love my Reg. Cab SWB Flareside with it's 6.5 foot box, I can haul just about anything I need to, and it is a bottom of the line truck(only options were power steering, the 300 and the box, didn't even come from the factory with a radio) so, I have no extra junk underhood or in the cab. If I really need to haul something, I just borrow my uncles 00 F350 PSD/6 speed, it's also a work truck, just XL trim, a cloth bench seat and A/C on it... Then my Cousin has an Exploder Sport-Trac, and, well, It's a useless piece of crap, he can't even pull his CJ-5 with it, he has to use the 97 F150 that he had before it to pull anything...
Don't discount those 97 up F150's as wannabe trucks, his "friend" borrowed his and rolled it 7 times, a new hood, tailgate, and bumper, and it's back on the road.....

Well Im sure that my regular cab long bed 79 f-150 will do me fine considering im only 16 and the most it will haul is my 300ex. Well if this doesnt blow your mind nothing will when my parents were looking at first to buy the Chebbie with the duracrap and the allison i read up to see what they were gettin into. Chevy has the 2500 x-cab short bed rated to tow more than the one ton dually. Only in a gm (well i guess izuzu) product
