Just thought I'd talk about something I've been noticing from all the truck manufacturers lately. If I go to a dealer's lot anymore, most, if not all the trucks are extended cab and have a 6 foot bed. WHY? It seems like you almost have to special order a standard cab longbed and they might just laugh in your face if you ask for a Supercab LWB. I don't mind an extended cab, but I have to have 8 ft of bed back there, and I'm not about to lose bed space so I can have a little more room in the cab. Has the level of yuppies driving pickups gotten to the level where real trucks are becoming obsolete?
I think it's just most people that use truck today are the average guy who has a family and wants a truck that he can haul his kids in and his fishing poles on the weekend. And quite frankly although i have a truck with an 8 foot bed i think the six looks better.

I am partial to my regular cab, short bed F-150. Better turning radius and less body weight for the engine to work against. If there is a need for extra cargo space , I can always hook up a trailer to carry the extra cargo. As far as room for extra passengers, just throw an old couch or lazy boy chair in the bed.
Let's see, I'm 6'3" and need some room. And I want to have someplace to seat my son. Just might need some room for firearms during hunting season also.
I'll take a supercab anyday. If it has a 8' bed great. Just hope I don't have to park it in town.
Nothing wrong with want you want. It's just not what everyone else needs. Remeber that over 90% of the trucks sold never go offroad or are used to haul anything more than just grass clippings and an occasional couch for the neighbor.
Besides trailers are pretty cheap. I'll take the 6' bed and drive it around and when I need more room I'll grab a trailer. You can always disconnect from the trailer. The 8' bed is kinda permanent.
miss my old 75 crew cab, still have it but use it on the acreage only. it has 300k on her, still runs but looks terrible.
Used to haul all 3 boys, my wife, and our great dane in it where ever we wanted to go (4x4).
And it had a 7 foot box, (just right).
Great old truck.... hi/po 390, factory hi/boy....
If I could afford a crew cab, I'd get it every time. but the prices have gone out the roof on 'em. At least for my budget.
daily driver is a 85 club cab, and it works, but you really can't get 6 adults in it. how about 3 adults and 4 kids. (no great danes).
My crew cab was a boat in a parking lot, but you get used to it. I think my driver now is just as bad actually. and my company truck isn't that much shorter turning radius. I think its all what you get used to...
I've never had anything buy Regular Cab Long beds in all of my Ford trucks. Anymore, I perfer more room inside and a little less outside. I think I've owned my last Regular cab for awile.
CrewCab's are the way to go. I see more and more CCshortbed's every day. And I know why. There just as long as a Supercab Longbed, but are as roomy or more roomy inside as a full-size 4door car. I want a Crewcab shortbed...
I like the fact that I can place my family the cab with no crowding. Also, on some jobs that I work where I sit in the truck all the time, I can lay in the back seat and nap :-). If you want a WORK TRUCK, then get the 8' bed.
You can still park an extended cab short bed in the garage (barely) where an 8' bed wouldn't think about going. We had a '01 Screw and the only reason I didn't keep it (was my wife's daily driver) was because of the payment. Even if I could afford it, I would rather have more room in the bed. That's why I just leased a '01 F150 SC short bed. I know the bed is only 6" longer but it is full width with stake pockets where I can use my ladder racks.
I agree there are a lot of Yuppies driving pickups--too many in my opinion. That is why the F150 was turned into a sort of yuppie-mobile in 1997 :-(. That is why you have the Explorer Sport Trac, which in my opinion does not rate next to a real pickup truck. Just put a half yard of topsoil in a Sport Trac's bed and watch it do a wheel stand . Almost all the bed in that thing is behind the rear axle. You couldn't possibly properly load it. Hey, here's how to get most of the yuppies out of pickups: ban automatic trannies in pickups :-). That would sort out the real pickup drivers from the yuppies. However, in all seriousness, they have as much right to drive pickups as I do. Still I liked it a lot better in '77 when I got my first pickup. Then most pickups were owned by people who really used them and used them hard. Then everyone considered me a redneck, just because I drove a pickup :7. Anyways, I always have had a short bed as I don't haul much very often. And then weren't most of the early pickups, such as the classic '56, short beds? Anyway, the longer wheelbase of the long bed pickup or extended cab/shortbed does give a better ride.
I was just kidding about throwing a couch in the bed of the truck to make room for passengers, although it's a good way to watch a fireworks show on the 4th of July if you set a cooler full of beer next to the couch .
I like a long bed truck. To me, a truck looks out of proportion when the cab is, or almost, the same size as the bed of the truck. Just my thoughts on the subject. Jake.
