66gpw, I have a neighhbor who drives nothing but Ford 300 six cylinder 1/2 tons. He has an 84 with a 300 that he parked when he got an 89 with the 300. I just remembered that he has a spare 300 sitting in his shop but don`t know if he would sell it or what shape it is in although I think that it is a low mileage motor.
That's ok I gave them the ok to rebuild the motor. Had 3 collapsed pistons. So it is going to be near $1300 after taxes. This way I know I will have a good engine for a long time. The rebuild that was done by Western Automotive does not say much for their quality. The truck has only 230,000km on it and this was a rebuild. When put in the truck is unknown.
I just look forward to having a good driving truck that should be good on gas for the winter.
Western has been gone awhile so it probably has quite afew miles and time on it. Hard to say how the motor was treated or maybe abused, I have heard of problems with some of their rebuilds. Hard to say why the pistons callapsed, maybe your rebuilder can give you some insight. Another expense that you don`t need but is necessary, hopefully it will be good after this and give decent fuel economy. More hair pulling I am sure.
Yeah Western Automotive rebuilders has been gone for sometime here in Saskatoon, But they still have a place in Winnipeg that does motors and this is where the tag indicates it is from. According to the rebuilder.
What is done is done. I will have a new motor and a reliable truck again.
I met a fella here this past week that has an 87 fuel injected 300. He says he gets 26 per gallon. There is hope for me yet, except mine is carbed. If I can get in the 20's it would be great.
