I'm finally getting around to doing something with my 78 F150, I'd like to find out if the 351M runs or not, but, someone made off with the rad, and, I don't like the idea of running an engine which hasn't run in 7 years without a rad on it, and, there's the whole tranny cooler issue. However, since I don't know if the engine runs or not, I'd rather not buy a new rad for it, as if it don't run, I'll just grab something else and throw it in there. What I'm wondering is, will a rad from an early 80's Econoline fit in there? It looks to me like it might, but, being winter and all, I'd rather not go through all the trouble of yanking a radiator that won't fit. I have access to an 82 E150 with a 302/C4 and an 82 and 84 E250 with a 351W/C6's.
Anyone know if this'll work?

To test a motor in this kind of weather just prop a radiator of any (reasonable) size (even a GM/Dodge if the hoses will reach) in there. Hook it up temporarily WITHOUT an engine fan and use a household box fan to push air over it. clamp it down with a pair of vise grips. Don't worry about the tranny cooler. Just put a hose from one line to the other and use hose clamps. This works OK in the summer too, you just have to watch your temps if you leave it running for long.
Thanks for using FTE!
