me and my dad have been putting together an 82 250, my dad seems to think it should get great gas mileage, mileage that a carburator wont get and multipoint fuel injection wont get, we have access to 2+ complete throttle body injection systems, and he seems to think that the throttle body will be a big help because my aunts old t bird did great on gas mileage (he seems to forget the fact that a car w/ high gears and an aod will do better that a f250 with 4.10's and a c6). so im asking is if the difficulty of the cfi is any harder or different than what i have heard and read about on the multipoint fuel injection(get a wiring diagram and lay out the harness after carefully removing it from the car, then carefully transefer it into the pickup that is recieving the system)
For a custom application, sure you can get EFI to work. But you'll likely need a custom chip or computer tuner. Whne you get everything bolted up, and if it runs well enough, bring it to a dyno shop where they can give you a wide band O2 A/F readout across your RPM range. Then a chip/tuner can be tweaked to fine tune it. Keep in mind you'll need to weld O2 adapters to your exhaust system. With a bit of tuning, trial/error, and more dyno tests, you might get 2-3 MPG more than using just a carb. Is that amount of work worth it?
