My truck is a 78 1\2 ton 4x4. I was wondering if it is possible to drop a 351c right in place of the 400.Will I have to change anything like the motor mounts,or anything else ?
Any info could be great
351c has the 302 style bolt pattern on the back of the block, while the 400 has a 460 style pattern you might have to change transmissions or if its a standard trans. you will have to change the bellhousing. engine mounts I think are diffrent too the 351c has the 302 style mounts while I think the 400 are diffrent.
a 351m will drop right in without any trouble atall but that would seem silly if you have a 400.
if you are looking for more power go 460 unless you already have the clevland. just my .02cents
The 400 is real weak and the clevland was rebuilt by my uncle and gots alot of goodies on it. when he had it in his 3\4 4x4 it had a whole lot of power unlike my 400? He no longer drives the truck and said that I could have the motor to use in my truck
For a power stand point I might just have to change over the mounts and switch the tranny?
