Lefthand threaded wheel studs/nuts

I'm the original owner of a 76 F350 supercab, camper special, 460/C6. The left rear wheel on this truck has lefthand threaded wheel studs. This is the only wheel location with this configuration; I'm just wondering why this was done; when it started and when did Ford discontinue.

I have a 73 f-350 crewcab longbed with the same setup on it, I don't know why they started it, I have an army deuce and a half and the left side wheels are also backwards, I think it was a heavy truck thing. I am replacing them with right hand lugs though cause mine are stretched.

I replaced mine when I installed the Alcoa wheels--Alcoa doesn't make a lefthanded lug nut that accept's one of their threaded lug covers. Finding an after market 9/16-inch stud of the correct length was a problem; ended up getting them from Ford.

vettman, My 82 F-250 4x4 with the 8700lb GVWR, has the left handed threads also on the left rear wheel, with the Dana 60 full floater.

I believe its a 1 ton, badged as a 3/4 ton.

It has the 9/16" wheel studs as well.
