PJW2565 - your 04 Ranger has the new Rally Gauge group. Inside the window (center of gauge cluster) there is an indicator for cruise control. I would think there is a bulb that needs to be installed?? I have an 04 Ranger and with cruise on lights up with the new indicator, symbol of a speedometer and small arrow at the 11 o'clock position. This is different from the old gauge package with amp, oil, water and fuel. + speed. and tach.
I had the factory cruise kit from eBay installed in my old 99 XLT 4x2. No light on the dash. Had the clicking switch too, but worked great.
That truck got destroyed by a drunk driver, new 2005 Ranger with factory cruise has an indicator on the dash. Must be a change to or an additional wiring harness that gets installed at the factory.
I too, am annoyed that the cruise buttons on the steering wheel light up, but the window and lock buttons on the doors don't. What was Ford thinking?
The small speedometer with the arrow is the same indicator as my grandfather's 2002 F-250. I like my mom's Silverado's indicator better tho, it just says CRUISE. First time I saw that little speedo pop up I was like holy crap what is that?
ANYWAYS, yeah it's kinda ghetto how they do lights. Ford I mean. Don't light the dash indicators, don't light the buttons, don't light the lock/window indicators. Then one by one add lights to them.
They'll all be lit.........one day.........
ag2kranger - "The clicking switch", arre you refering to that switch that goes on the brake pedal that shuts off the cruise?? I put the same kit in my truck and i couldn't get that damn switch mounted right and i ended up just cutting off the plug and conecting the wires together. It was only a secondary shut off. The cruise module ties into the brake light switch and the clutch switch to shut it off if you push either one more then a centimeter.
The cruise light on my truck is suposed to illuminate "speed cont" in green letters off to the side of the oil pressure gauge. I have to pull the dash apart soon to replace a blown bulb and i'm toying with the notion of added a bulb to the cluster and if it's not wired, wiring it to the cruise control so that it does work.
We have a 2001 Explorer Sport Trac(which is a four door Ranger) and it has a "SPEED CONT" light. Seems like if the Sport Trac has one a ranger would.

99 XLT, with factory installed cruise control, the dash, in the lower right corner has a back lit, blue lettering dispay, that says "speed cont",when the cruise is on.
