I also set the timing last night once the engine was warmed up. There was already a white mark painted on the balancer, so it was pretty easy to set it.
But it jumps around quite a bit, I noticed. Even with the hold-down bolt tight, it bounces between about 8 and 12 BTDC. Is this normal? This is a new engine.
Edit: I searched and found a thread describing where the spout is. Just to make sure I have it right, because I think I know exactly what it is. It's off the wiring harness that goes to the distibutor, and it's a gray plug in the end of a connector, right?
It looked to me like that might have been meant to plug into something but the 'something' wasn't there. Sort of like the jumper plug under the dash of my single gas tank truck that takes the place of the selector switch.
