ihave a 72 f250 custom superduty. some people say it has a 360 some say 390 i have no idea who's right. i tried checking my vin/hin# but its only 11 numbers/letters long so carfax and other place will not check it for me. whats my options and how do decode the vin # f25hkp85837.
The only sure fire way to determine if you have a 360 or 390 is by checking the stroke. A 360 has a 3.50" stroke and the 390 has 3.78". There are different ways to measure the stroke so just query the FE forum and take your pick. Good luck.

if you go to LMCtruck.com and order a one of their catalogs it will have info to decode you vin# in the front few pages. the catalogs are free and are pretty specific. Otherwise try looking on the left side rocker arm cover, there should be a label there that should tell what engine you have unless it has been removed or too worn to read.
72, The H in the VIN indicates that it is a 390, if it is the same engine that was installed at the factory. A lot of things could have been changed out in 30 years.
