i just bought a 1973 pickup with a 351m-400 and i have some questions
i noticed that the accel pump was messed up so i rebuilt the carb and dont know how to tune it
i got it running but when i stand on the gas i here the trechorus detonation and i know that it is not a good thing
i have flowmasters so i think thats whats leaning it out
all i need to know is which screw do i turn to richen it or can i change the jet. oh by the way its teh origional 2bbl i believe its only a 250cfm but i mite be wrong
Torquie,
You have a motorcraft 500 on your ping monster.
Your timing is too far advanced. Retard it!
You can richen your A/F ratio by changing the jets.
Pull the top cover(you can leave the carb on the truck). The jets are in the bottom of the bowls.
Unscrew'em and get the numbers off them. Buy the next few sizes up and start playing with it.
Watch your plug color for clues.

I have F 150 with 400 in it and i build it for pulling in truck pulls in the stock class. It weighs 4900lbs and i pull in three weight class 5800,6500,7200 and im hard to beat evan for the powerstokes. But I do break alot tranfer cases, dana 60,70 twist drive shaft split ujoints. I turn any where from 4500-5500rpm in the process of building another 400. Will NEVER build a 460.
