I have a 84 Ford F350 it has a 400 modified in it and i was wanting to know if a 351 and a 400 is the same? It needs a starter and I want to put some headers on it. So will the starter and the headers be the same for the 400 as the 351?

The 351 Modified engine parts will work, but not the 351 Windsor or the 351 Cleveland.
From what I have gathered though the 400 has more torque than the 351M. However the 400/351M are from the same family as the 351C (atleast from what I have read) however, what we need to know is if you plan on using the M, C, or W version of the 351.
The 351m/400 share almost all the same parts, except a shorter crank and different pistons. Everything else is compatable. A 351m starter will work on a 400. As far as headers go anything for a 400 will work and most 351 cleveland headers will work depending on the style. The cylinder heads are interchangable with the clevelands but the 400 block is taller which can raise fitment issues with the headers. If this engine is completely stock your best bet would be a aftermarket straight up timing chain set and if funds are available a different cam shaft, as the stock ones were between 6 and 8 deg retarded smog junk peices. Something like an elgin E1225pm would be move a heavy truck around pretty nice.
