Washing Machine Problems

Anyone here know anything about washing machines?
Mine developed an annoying problem today: When turned on, it runs water into the machine - but it never fills - it drains immediately - there are no leaks anywhere that I can see - so it runs the entire cycle - wash, rinse, spin, etc - with no water.
What should I be looking for?

Glenn

is it pumping it's self out ? or has the drain hose been lowered below a 3' height? is there a air gap on top of the drain also? what is the make/model of the machine?

I once had a machine that was hooked to a drywell. The hose fit tightly into the drain pipe and would siphon the tub dry after the 1st drain. I had to add a small check valve that would break the siphon when the machine quit pumping and began to refill. It took me a while to figure out why the water was getting sucked out though. I would check your drain. If the water is not on the floor it is going out the drain somehow. Your machine sounds like it may have a problem with the water level switch or be turning on the drain pump at the wrong time. My machine will not run any of the cycles until the water level is full. It will try to fill forever if the water is off or very slow.

My WASHER does not fill. Water is coming in but it seems to be syphoning the water down the drain.

. There are 2 causes for this:
The drain hose is too low. The drain hose must be looped higher than the water level in the washer. If it is too low, raise it up. If it is impossible to raise the drain hose, the cure for this is to install a syphon break in your drain hose. The part is cheap and easy to install.
The drain hose must be able go get air in order to prevent setting up a syphon action. If your drain hose is taped to the plumbing pipe, or fits in too tight, it will syphon. The drain hose must just drop into the plumbing pipe. If it is imposible to give the drain hose air at the plumbing pipe, use a syphon break in your drain hose.
