Well i got my 60 out of my truck and started tearing the breaks off. The drum wouldnt clean the axle hub so i pulled out the shafts. Problem is npow the shafts wont go back in. I can get em to where the splines ingage and then the hub bolts just barley grab the shaft then it wont go any further. The shafts are left hanging about 1/2" out. Now we were banging on it perty good to get the brakes freed up whith one of the shafts out. Could thisd have caused anything to become missaligned? Thanks for the help.
Pull the cover off the back and see what's going on inside. Can you catch any of the threads with the axle bolts? The shafts were clean when you stuck them back in? No dirt on the ends? Are the hubs seated all the way on the axle housing? pull the shaft out again and put the drum on and make sure it goes over the backing plate far enough. Did you mess with the inner bearings at all? It sounds to me like the hub isn't seated all the way on the axle.
i figured out the problem. Theres 2 sets of splines in the carrier and they somehow got out of sync. I got the bearing cap torque specs so i pulled the carrier and thats what i found. Thanks for the advice anyway.
If the two side gears slipped then the clutches are bad. They should not move out of place on there own like that. When replacing clutches you should always use an axle to keep the two side gears in line when tightening the set up back up.
You can leave one wheel on the ground and jack the other off of the ground and see how much force it takes to turn the wheel that is off the ground. I'm not sure what the torque rating is for a D60 posi to get the cltches to slip but I would say it whould be well over 150ftlbs.
