Question 6.0 Replacement?

OK I am new to the group and I just got my 05 6.0 and I am reading all this bad news of people having troubles and FORD is changing it out because it is not the best engine OK I made one mistake so far with FORD I bought in 96 a 351W in a F-350 4x4 instead of the 460 or PSD before you flame me money was tight for gas and 4,000 for the PSD. I found the 351W did not get much better MPG and it had no where near the power ( I owned a 77 with a 460 in it )OK all that said my mistake. Did I make another???? I think my 6.0 runs really good and has tons of power I am not one for doing allot of upgrades I do maintenance and drive.I would of loved a 7.3 but I can't get one new and the used prices are nuts. What is so bad about the 6.0? What are they going to put in next? My dream was a 92 or 93 Cummins in a SD since that will never happen please tell me how to protect my 6.0 I don't have the money to buy a truck every few years I need to get 8 to 10 years out of them.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Glen

don't fret it. just drive it. ford has made many changes and continues to do so. some of the reg's will be around to help you out with more detailed info.
best of luck with your new ride

You know when you really analyze how many of these things are out on the road in service every day for the last 36 months, in just about every work/service/industrial capacity as well as personal use and recreational vehicles you start to see just how reliable the 6.0 actually is in the raw numbers.
And from everything I've read here and other places, ford has pretty much stepped up when big repairs are needed.
Bottom line dont sweat it.

they are not replacing the 6.0 because it is bad it just won't pass the emissions starting in 07 so they are going to a 6.4 390 v-8 diesel. if you look at the numbers of them with out problems they far out number the few with problems.

I see dozens of 6.0s on the road everyday. I have the '03 and no problems. Good, strong engine.

I wouldnt worry about it. People post there problems not there success stories. Ill tell you one thing youd think duramxes an Cummins were fool proof motors an thats far from the truth. They have issues as well. Some serious ones at that. Fords the target of every one. Running em down every chance they get. Drive an enjoy lifes to short.

Glen,

Hang around a while longer and I think you will be satisfied and not leary of your 6.0.

Like said above, most people come here with minor issues on the engine/tranny. The rest are either just looking for performance tips or looking for recall info.

If you look at this forum posts, I think you will find a lot of satisfied 6.0 owners in the background that have nothing but good to say about that engine.

Remember: "It's the squeeky wheel that get's the oil"

I had the same worries before I bought my 05 F350. Read on, I think you will see most people are more than happy. It ain't a mistake in my opinion. I am very pleased with mine.

I have seen referenced here and at other 6.0 sites that the 6.0 must be junk 'cause Ford is moving to a new design for '07 MY.

Why doesn't anybody think that just maybe...the 6.0 design was always intended as an interim engine...as a bridge from the '03 thru '06 model year?

An EPA compliance effort which gives Ford some breathing room while preparing for the next round of EPA regs is really not to far fetched.

Thumbs up

As you can see by the responses the Folks here at FTE are a great bunch of people.
Just like you we all have a Ford PSD 6.0, mine is two months old, and I still LOVE that
TRUCK. Aside from FORDS warranty support network. We will all stand together with you and each other when there are problems. So like some of my other buddies have stated, DON'T SWEAT IT JUST DRIVE THE TRUCK. And check in from time to time we will help you fiqure out the maintenance tasks. Good Luck and enjoy the ride we do!
