The intermittent operation function of the windshield wiper on my '90 F150 has ceased to work. Also the "park" (in the lowest position) function has failed. Otherwise, they work OK... both on high and low speed. Does anyone know if this is caused by failiure of the wiper switch or is the problem with the wiper motor? A seemingly knowledgable fellow at a local parts store told me that the switch probably controls the intermittent function but that the park function is associated with the motor. Also, how difficult is replacement of these parts? Any help is much appreciated. Tom
The fellow was incorrect, i believe. The wiper system has three main components; the wiper switch ($30), the wiper motor (?) and the intermitent control module ($150 at Ford). One of our members told how to identify the control module, photo and everything, but i can't seem to find it again. My intermitent control module is the culprit, and it seems that is a weak link in the chain. Good luck!
The module is a black box under the dash on the passenger side. It is off to the side in front of the door. You maybe able to hear it click when operating the washer pump....I think.

That is correct, I went hunting for it and found a nightmare. The nice post with photos on another thread was for (remembering here...) an '87 or so. My '89 is a total nightmare. The control unit is still a 3-part wiring loom; (1) the plug that fits on the back of the wiper control switch, then goes to the control box which is a black box behind the switch, then from the black box the wire loom goes into the left side underdash innards somewhere that can't be reached by taking the cover off the wiper switch area and even by taking off the front mounting plate holding the wiper and light switches. I think on the '89 you would have to take the entire dash apart, (including dropping the steering column) in order to get to, and unplug, the far end of the controller wiring loom plug. The Ford dealership doesn't even have a picture of it on their 'puter catalog. At $150, I want to see what my old one looks like, then compare it with the new one they want a deposit up front to order.
Thanks, codejunkie, for your reply to my question about my '90 F150's intermittent wiper function. I hadn't checked this FTE site lately & use another email address for most of my email or would have replied sooner. I'll snoop around a bit to see if I can find the control module. I wonder if I can get the control module, if that's what I need, cheaper at my local NAPA. I'll keep you posted. Tom
